The Utah Jazz Marketing Machine at Work

I dont know if anyone has meandered over to the Jazz's home page at http://www.utahjazz.com/, but I highly recommend it. I got the chills watching the intro, one might even say that I had spiritual experience watching it. (Que the Elders nodding in unison and thinking this guy is golden.)

For tonight's game I wonder if the Rockets have anything left to give? That loss was pretty demoralizing for them. Their star player is making excuses and they are all hoping and praying that a guy that goes by "Skip to my Lou" can pull a Willis Reed and make a difference in the series after being down with an injury. I am sorry guys, but if you think Rafer Alston is going to make a difference in this series then I have some nice beach front property in Salt Lake for you to look at. There is a reason that the Jazz tanked (at least that is what we are calling it now) so badly against the Spurs in the last game of the season. We own you at every position and most importantly between the ears. You know it and we know it so lets just get this series over with and move onto bigger and better things.

Three predictions for you:

1 - The Jazz get another double digit victory tonight.
2 - Tracy McGrady cry's and blames the ball boys for not passing him the ball correctly in warm-ups.
3 - The Jazz sweep the series on Saturday night at home.

And last, but not least here is a song to chear you up Rockets Fan - http://1280thezone.com/images/uploads/audio/RocketsFan2008.mp3

Am I the only one worried about tonight's game. Call me scared, cautious, whatever you want, but I don't want to go buy a broom just yet. Now, if we win tonight, that's another story. I know we can win tonight, I just don't want to assume anything. By all means this is no respect to the Rockets, I just worry about the Jazz getting to relaxed. Hopefully Sloan has done nothing but show them footage of the T-Wolves, Knicks and Heat games all day so they are fired up come tip-off. Let's do this Jazz!

No one, and I mean NO ONE is thinking this or hoping or praying anything about it. That's just ridiculous. Come on man, you're better than that

I think Rockets fans know they will need more than Skip, they need McTeary to show up and play like the superstar he is considered to be. They pay him out the wazoo...it's only right that he return the favor and give the fans what they've been waiting so long for.

That being said. Not going to happen. McTeary appeared to be mentally checked out after the last game.

Again, just to reiterate my earlier comments, henceforth and thus we will agree, in unison and agreeance, we should all be in accordance that NEVER should the face of the franchsie remove his jersey in front of the crowd right after the stadium. There is no excuse for that. McTeary sealed his teams fate with that move.

How would you feel if you were the 12th guy on the bench and saw that?

uotorange: all I am reading from the mouth of your coach and players is that when we get Rafer Alston back this and if only Rafer was healthy that. It's your team making the excuses, not us. Adelman is openly bitching about not getting 2 days off so Rafer can get healthy enough to play. I stand by my comments.

Only one, R. Merkley can get away with the "post game jersey-take off." Right C.B.?

McGrady was absolutely NOT double teamed like he claimed. Often the Jazz would send a guy over to threaten who wouldn’t even actually guard him, but would stand 3-5 feet away to cut off passing/driving lanes. It reminded me of the New Orleans game. ALSO, the 2 threes that KK hit, McGrady was totally lost on D which left Kyle open. There were also several possessions where McGrady didn’t even move from the three point line, one in particular when he had an iso on KK (the entire side of the floor was wide open) and he passed to Jackson who immediately missed a 3.

This, added to his post-game comments, reminds me of that one guy on the church basketball team who played 1 year of high school ball and thinks he’s the best player on the floor and makes 2 or 3 great plays but doesn’t do much else other than point at everyone else and tell them what they’re doing wrong.

Couldn't have said it better myself Scrum.

Yes Booner. R. Merkley does that right...only if he had a Rodman Jersey underneath his Church Ball jersey.

Booner, I'm really nervous about tonight's game as well. I predict the Rockets will come out of the gates rabidly pissed off, and the Jazz might come out like the Pistons did the other day. Man I sure hope you're right about the Jazz coaching staff showing videos of those losses to the Leastern Conference teams.

Basketball John made a great point on his blog today on McGrady's comment about how there's nothing he can do when he gets double-teamed and his teammates can't hit shots....except for the fact that he wasn't double-teamed at all in Game 1.

Hammy - that site intro was incredible, I can't stop watching it.

Hey, not to change the subject at all but did anyone else notice when D-Will got knocked the to ground in game one, the lady announcing said, "Welcome to the Playoffs." What the hell? I was offended by that. Is that weird? Apparently ESPN forgot about the Jazz run last year. Sorry to get off-track. I just can't get over that comment.

HAHA. I so love and remember that song from way back in the 90's! Classic. And the new site is very motivational. Jerry should find whoever made that and have them make it into an hour long film that the players watch before the game.

moneyman memo said...

Thanks for bringing that up, Booner. Call me a chauvinist or whatever, but I can't stand Doris Burke (or Barry White, as Whistle aptly pointed out) doing the color call for NBA games. My reasoning is that she's got the same NBA experience as all of us, which is zilch...everything she knows is from reading a piece of paper handed to her or watching NBA games on TV or from the stands, which doesn't qualify her in any way over us to be calling NBA games. I would be okay with her calling the play-by-play, but as a color commentator? Seriously?? I don't think she knows the first thing about being knocked down by a bigger man on a basketball court - I think any of us that has played a pick-up game can speak more knowledgeably about that than her.

Ok that's the last time I skip an anger management session. I'm watching the game on mute tonight.

speaking of mute, anyone know who our crew is tonight?

sorry, better link to the Korver trademark D here

As ESPN usually does for the Jazz, we have the leftovers tonight. At least they aer two players with ties to the teams playing.

Play by Play: Hakeem

Color: Karl Malone
"If Utahr gets the ball to the post, then Utahr will win."

Sideline Reporter: Masha Kirilenko
(can't wait to see what she is wearing.)

TNT tonight, all I want is Kevin Harlan, "and Hornacek has gone mad!!"

Brock Kassing said...

Sorry, my bad. I forgot it was a TNT game.

TrueHoop picked up BBJ's post about McGrady and the phantom double teaming.

I, like Booner & MM, am kinda worried about this game. As long as the players don't come out overconfident (that word really seems to be describing most Jazz fans right now), we should be okay. As in... not completely blown out.

They still need to play the game though.

Hot Rod just called it the Western Conference Finals...

Huge shot by Price. Hopefully Deron is alright.

Stupid refs swallowing their whistles for the Rockets but calling everything on the Jazz.

2-0 coming home!
What a shot there by KoKo!
Amazing.
