Bring on the Hornets

Awesome game by the Jazz on Friday night, that was the defensive effort that we are going to need for the rest of the year. That game tied the franchise low in scoring for the Spurs. It also tied the league mark for missed wide open lay-ups in a row from one player by Matt Harpring. You are dang lucky that the Jazz did not need those buckets Matt or we would be serving you up as the main course for the next week. You could see it in his eyes when he went up for those layups, there was no confidence at all. The thoughts going through his mind had to be so depressing.

On to the Hornets - or as they are more commonly reffered to by the media as "MVP front-runner Chris Paul and the Hornets". I think I am just going to shorten their name to HO's for today. Is anyone else sick of the non-stop Chris Paul love affair that we are being subjected to? I understand, he is having a good season, historic even, but enough is enough. Let's see it happen in the playoffs once before we annoint this kid king and ruler of the NBA. This game is as big as it gets for the Jazz. In the long run it will most likely mean nothing in the standing's, but to beat the HO's in New Orleans after the smack down on the Spurs would make quite the statement to the rest of the NBA. I think that we will see an epic point guard duel this game with the X-factor being Ronnie Brewer coming back from injury to score 20 + points and get 4 steals. The question marks for the Jazz are going to be can the 3-point shooting stay hot and can Booze put together back to back above average defensive efforts. Let's hope so.

If Chris Paul walked up to any ESPN, NBA.com, Sports Illustrated analyst and asked him/her to leave their spouse and run away with him... my guess is every single one of them would do it.

This game is so epic, they should make a movie about it.

Don't forget about the Y factor, the reffs.

That one seems best neutralized with a 10 point plus spread.

I think you should stop being the hater you are and call them by their real names . I for one can't get enough of the talk of Chris Paul. If it was Deron Williams or Carlos Boozer you would wanna hear that bullshit all damn day. Give props where props are due.

yay anonymous flamer!

This is a Utah Jazz blog, what the hell did you expect?

I should clarify:
I feel the same way as Boozer's Hammy, the media is in love with Paul, just like they're in love with Kobe and LeBron. The constant media attention is tiring. And, as I said, this is a Utah Jazz blog, to think that we would feel anything different is ridiculous.
"Give props where props are due"?? Did you even read the post? Boozer's Hammy says, "I understand, he is having a good season, historic even..."

Oh, and P.S. Grow Up.

P.S.S. So are you saying that the Chris Paul talk is all bullshit?
For example, you said: "If it was Deron Williams or Carlos Boozer you would wanna hear that bullshit all damn day." Therefore implying that the recent talk of CP3 is bullshit.

P.S.S.S. Check Yourself.

P.S.S.S.S. Don't swear. My four year old reads this.

True that scrumtrulescent. We've had a few random Anonymous boys dropping comments calling us Jazz homers.

Um...

OK. We are.

Deal with it.

Dont worry about annonymous, he is illerate apparently. Come back and run your smack when Chris Paul leads his team to the western conference finals like D-Will has. Like I said before, great season from Paul, but we all know that the regular season is worthless. Its your playoff resume that counts. Ask Tracy McGrady about that one. If Paul does not get to the conference finals at a minimum this year than all of the hype was for nothing. That is the bottom line in all of this, stop hyping the kid so damn much until he has earned it in the real season like our boy D-Will has.

Word to your mother!!!!

For real though. You guys are the biggest Jazz homers I've ever met....and I love each and every one of you.

Guys, I have to say this because the feeling has been building inside of me for a few games now. At first I thought it was more of the DFC (delusional fan complex), but I began to realize that this time the feeling was founded on something more substantial (and sane).

I abhor Hollinger most of the time, but he has been in love with the Jazz all year so it makes it that much harder to hate his work. If you look at his Playoff Odds (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/playoffodds)breakdown, he has the Jazz at a 25.5% chance of making the NBA Finals, and 11.6% chance of being NBA Champs. Both of those numbers are at least twice any other team in the Western Conference.

Now I know those numbers don't do much except perpetuate the delusions of grandeur, but doggone it, I'm going to say it today, April 8, 2008: THIS IS THE YEAR, gentlemen - the Jazz are going to make it back to the Finals and win it this time.

The pundits aren't pointing it out because they are so enamored over CP3 and the MVP race, but I think us Jazz homers are feeling it deep within our loins...the playoff seeding is shaping us nicely for us and we match up well against all the teams we will meet in the first few rounds, and even against Boston in the Finals. Even if we don't have home-court, I still see us cruising into the WCF. For the first time, I am not deathly afraid of a possible matchup with the Spurs...only slightly scared. I know, I know, the 90-64 win was only one game...but I liked what I saw. A lot. This team can win on the road (see Celtics, Boston) when they are focused, and they have all the weapons to match up with anybody.

These are bold statements, and it's entirely possible that this is just another DFC episode...but I think greatness surrounds this year's team and they are ready.

Love the confidence Moneyman. Love it. I hope what you say is true and if so, I give you all the credit in the world. However, wasn't Miami your preseason pick to win the East????? Kidding.
Go Jazz!

M. D. said...

I just experienced one of the best moments of my Jazz fan life.

Moneyman has finally brought it out in me.

This is our year.

That speech was right up there with William Wallace in Braveheart, The President of the United States in Independence Day, and Will Ferrell in Old Skool.

Perhaps it is the DFC, but deep in my gut, I feel something rumbling (shout out to my boy Booner), and that rumbling will lead us to the WCF and to the Finals themselves.

I want you all to prepare for a post that will come once the playoffs start. It will consist of each of us making a sacrifice of what we will give up if the Jazz win it all. Desperate times call for desperate actions gentlemen...and women (hi Amy).

Start thinking of what you WILL give up for the Utah Jazz to "Show me the title!"

Brock Kassing said...

O.K. but promise me I don't have to give up Immodium.

Unknown said...

And you can't give up sex again. We already did that to stop the loosing streak in Decemer.

Brock Kassing said...

Oh, we aren't doing that any more? Shi#!

If the Jazz win tonight I want Moneyman Memo to write a 1000 word motivational post to all Jazz fans. I will have both feet firmly planted on the we can win it all bandwagon with a victory tonight.

M. D. said...

No we're not doing that anymore Booner. It's just the fact that your wife is preggers. That's probably it. OH and yes, immodium is totally game to have to give up, late night HBO is not.

I want a motivational speech by Moneyman Memo as well. We need some sort of mission statement heading into the playoffs.

Brock Kassing said...

I'll work on our Family Crest.

JC said...

We should spend some time on a real mission statement that all the Jazz sites, and all commenters' blogs, will carry. Sorta like a campaign rally, "YES WE CAN...WIN THE TITLE." etc. We should keep it under 500 words (about a page and a half double spaced) and spam all Jazz fans with it until the local papers pick it up (I'm sure Siler and Luhm would jump on it too). If you want to get some guys together to do it (BBJohn, UtesFan89, etc), email me (regretthisblog@gmail.com) and we can craft something special.

"My Utah Jazz...Has a nice RING to it." Get it? Sorry, lame. My mom would be proud though. I was always good at making those "candy bar" posters.

M. D. said...

That's because the closest convenience store was Peterson's and they only sold 100 Grand and Big Hunks. Sorry to break it to you.

Every candy bar poster I ever received from Booner:

You're a BIG HUNK and worth 100 GRAND.

Brock Kassing said...

But, come on C.B. you have to admit, it helped you through those rough times. Plus my choice of poster board color was always spot-on.
