AK shoots 100% against Australia

Too bad that was only from the free throw line where he was 4/4. How was he from the field you ask... a less-than-stellar 1/10. Yep, in 36 min of play, our own AK-47, the star of the Russian team, managed only 6 points in a 95-80 loss. However, he did collect 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and a block; thereby solidifying his spot as one of the highest paid role players in the NBA.

I really love AK's game, but he's only worth about half of what we're paying him. With Booz and Memo looking for (another) big payday, AK's contract may be what sinks this team. Again, I love his game, but we need to trade him for an expiring contract and a center who can play (at least some) defense. At this point, I've even willing to trade him for a Laker, say...Odom? With Bynum back in the picture Odom will be the 4th or even 5th scoring option behind the Doberman, the Racist, the Laker fans' newly annointed basketball god, and the Turncoat. Odom shredded Booz during the playoffs so we know he has some game, although playing against Booz isn't the best way to gauge a player's offensive abilities since he apparently likes to fill his shoes with sand before the games.

Someone call KOC, I think I'm on to something here...

UPDATE: Ben Gordon doesn't want to play with the Bulls anymore. He stated today that he won't sign a qualifying offer and has played his last game with the Bulls. Gordon made $3.5 million last year and averaged 18.6 ppg and shot 41% from 3 (now THAT is efficiency, you listening AK?) I say sign-and-trade AK for Gordon and Gooden (Gooden is a making 7 mil but is in the last year of his contract). Gordon will likely sign for about 7 mil per (that's double his current salary) so with Gooden's salary coming off the books after this season, that's about 7.5 million more we have to spend on Oboozikur when they opt out. Pull the trigger O'Connor!

Good Call Scrum. I like that idea. We aren't going to win it with what we have so we need to make a move. In A.K.'s defense, he is still tripling Boozer's Olympic #'s. So there is probably just as good an argument about dishing Boozer for someone else.

Isn't it interesting how the Lakers players nicknames sound like the same starting squad Nazi Germany took to the Olympics in 1936?

I can't stop flip flopping on the AK issue. His play against Australia makes me want to move him...

Nice work Scrum.

Gordon is not signing for 7 mil / year. He's already repeatedly turned down 10 mil / yr, and he thinks he should be paid more than Deng (6yr / 71mil).

dang, thanks for the info. Maybe 8-9 mil with a winning team will sway him...?

We would have to add one more wing player going to the Bulls and bump Gordon's salary up into the 11 mil range to get that done. I would offer up AK and 2 of our shooting guards - CJ, Ashton, Brewer or Almond - for Gordon and Gooden to get that deal done. A total of about 18 million in contracts would be changing hands but the Jazz would get to wipe off 7 million next year and Godon would be getting paid about 5 million per year less than AK.
It would solve a ton of issues for us. We would get AK off the books, unravel the log-jam at the 2 and 3 possition and give us one more guy that you have to guard. Imagine D-Will, Gordon, Booze, Okur and either Korver, Miles or Brewer as your starting 5. I am saying it now, that would be the highest scoring team in NBA history and Jerry Sloan would kill himself trying to somehow keep the scores under 100. I absolutely love the idea and will take back the turd sandwich if O'Connor can pull that one off.

Please make this trade... a smallish, shoot-first shooting guard who doesn't play much defense and thinks he is better than he really is? Jerry Sloan might have an aneurysm and when Gordon goes under the pick on D. That would be awesome.

Its not like the defense is going to get worse for the Jazz if they were able to do this deal. AK is seriously over-rated as a defender. But even myopic Rockets fan would have to agree that offensively it would be a freaking onslaught of fire power from the Jazz. Tell me, who are you going to leave open if D-Will, Korver, Gordon, Okur and Boozer are on the floor? You have to play them strait up and there is not a single player in the world that can contain D-Will strait up. You would have to double from somewhere and then you leave a bunch of 40% 3-point shooters wide open. Secretly I am hoping that putting a team like that together would drive sloan to the farm for good because you are dead on about him losing it when he sees what they are incapable of on D.
